레드핫칠리페퍼스라는 밴드를 친구의 권유로 처음 알게 됐을 때,

나는 충격을 받았던 기억이 있다.

상당한 난이도의 프레이즈와 리프를 방방 뛰어가면서

후려 갈기는 베이시스트 플리와 기타 예수님 존푸의 모습이

막 자라나던 중학생 록키드에게는 신선한 자극이 아닐 수 없었다.

무엇보다도 무대 위에서 보여주는 엄청난 에너지와 똘끼에 

매료되었다.

 

록스타가 된다면 저런 록스타가 되고 싶노라고 

맘속으로 혼자 생각하며 실실 웃곤 하였다.

무려 1984년부터 지금까지 활동하고 있는 

말그대로 리빙 레전더리의 밴드다.

이들과 같은 시대를 살고 있다는 게 훗날에는 대단한 일이지 않을까.
